Trellist Helps Leading Financial Institution Make Online Content Accessible to People with Disabilities
04/09/2013
Trellist is helping a leading financial institution make their customer loyalty sites more accessible to people with disabilities. This action follows a recent court case in which a major internet retailer was challenged for not complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (the "ADA"). The plaintiff claimed that websites are places of "public accommodation" and thus must provide access for the visually and hearing-impaired. Although this is not yet a requirement for private companies, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 requires government-related agencies and federal contractors to make online content accessible to the visually impaired.
Trellist will use ADA-compliant best-practice coding methodologies specifically optimized to allow users who rely on screen reading applications to interact with the sites. This could include simply browsing the site's contents to completing a complex task in a highly functional workflow. As part of the development effort, Trellist maintained a collaborative working environment between the client's several project teams, as well as on- and offshore testing facilities.
